Poor Pedro's in the poorhouse, along with the rest of the villagers of Divinas palabras (1987). Their burg's so small and underfunded that it doesn't even have a priest. Pedro acts as the sexton, handling affairs of the spiritual sort between visits from a real-life holy man . . . until one of Pedro's family members dies, and a dark, handsome fellow takes to consoling the sexton's wife with sexin'! Things change a ton once the missus, Ana Belén, kisses the church-mouse life goodbye, slathering her formerly covered-up self in wild getups and bright makeup, dancing at gypsy carnivals and soaking her sweet, succulent olives in bathtub gin.
