Review

Die Artisten in der Zirkuskuppel: Ratlos (1968), or The Artist in the Circus Dome: Clueless, is an esoteric West German drama that uses the struggles of a small time circus as a metaphor for the Holocaust. Leni (Hannelore Hoger) is the circus director who is facing the dilemma of performing meaningful art or just continuing to give the people the cheap entertainment they want. It's an examination of art in the wake of the Holocaust and whether entertainment has to mean something in order to entertain.  Thankfully it's not all elephants and concentration camps, there's also a fair amount of flesh from the film's star Hannelore Hoger. First we get a fantastic full frontal scene as she lounges in a clear water bathtub, showing off her skin sacks and muffshish. Then she slips out of her ringmaster outfit on a couch, giving us another quick glimpse at her glands as she does so. It may not be a real circus, but it'll turn you into a snake charmer!
