Carl(a) (2013)

Carl(a) (2013), was ahead of its time in terms of depicting the life of trans women. In fact, this movie stars two trans leads (Joslyn DeFreece and Laverne Cox before Orange is the New Black) whose own transition experiences were used for a large part of the movie's script. Joslyn plays Carla (once Carl), who works as a cam girl and struggles immensely to gain the acceptance of her family. She's close friends with Laverne's character, who is a trans prostitute facing a great deal of violence because of it, and eventually finds a love interest in Sam, a man who doesn't want her to finish her transition into a woman. It's a gripping movie, and not just because of the subject material—after Joslyn goes fully nude when she drops her robe for her boyfriend and does a full-frontal shot with her fantastic rack and a lingering look at her butt, you'll be gripping something else!
