Earnest and well-liked six-year series about the difficulties overcome by a pair of no-nonsense lady cops. Women appreciated the non-preachy equal rights approach, while guys enjoyed the inner-city cop heroics. Assets include two strong leads (Tyne Daly and Sharon Gless), a welcome sense of authentic urbane credibility and a handful of writers who weren’t entirely beholden to the cop cliches of yesteryear.
