Great Nudity!

Review

Mams-loving murderess Amanda Plummer is plum nutty, and now this Sapphic lunatic has gone and found herself a buddy! That's the gist of Butterfly Kiss (1996), Michael Winterbottom's wintry bit of weirdness about life on the very, very bottom rung. Unglued Amanda spends her days drifting around the roadsides of Britain looking for someone named Judith, bursting into gas stations, asking for Judes, and then killing the clerks behind the counters. But she doesn't slay slow-witted Saskia Reeves, for in Sas she finds a kindred spirit . . . and ass! Soon Amanda has made Sas her new main squeeze in her lonely life of skeeve, and together they set out on the road, spree killing, feasting on fast food, and getting nudith in their loony hunt for Judith. If Amanda's wee mammaries covered with clamps and chains are what you crave, Butterfly Kiss is your ticket to pierced indie paradise. And if you're just looking for bleakness, this Badlands (1973) for the muff-munching set has all your bases covered.
