From 1963 to 1966, Gene Barry played the role of Amos Burke, police chief and multi-millionaire, in the fun but not overly great ABC cop thriller Burke’s Law. With glamorous backgrounds, guest stars by the truckload, and radical twists on traditional formula homicide cases, the show did some good business over the three seasons it was around. Which for some reason meant that in 1994 CBS figured it would be a good idea to retool the series. Now Burke was a widower with a son (Peter Barton), who was also a detective under his command. Only it wasn’t actually a very good idea at all, and the show died under the weight of Dom DeLuise, Dick Van Patten, and Ed McMahon cameos, despite the fact that one episode featured a young and then unknown trio of Denise Richards, Elizabeth Berkley, and Jennfier Aniston. What would it cost to get the three of them into a room today? Imagine!
