Brooklyn Babylon (2000) takes the Bard’s classic tale of star-crossed lovers and sets it in Brooklyn, specifically the hot intersection of a black and Jewish neighborhoods. Juliet is played by Karen Goberman, a real Jewish American Princess from an orthodox family. She’s engaged to a militant thug. Meanwhile, Romeo is a Rastafarian rap star, played by Tariq Trotter. When the two meet it’s sky rockets in flight, but this is no short afternoon delight, but a life-long obsession. Of course, you know the story, and a lifetime for these two is about an afternoon for the rest of us. But before that Karen has a love scene with her Romeo, with a brief breast exposure.
