Scary stuff happens in the forest. Take, for example, what goes down—and comes off—in the British thriller Broken (2006). Nadja Brand portrays the meaningfully monikered Hope, a single mother who awakes to find herself the surprise prisoner of a mohawk-adorned creep (Eric Colvin). After a series of torturous trials, the sadist brings home another victim, this time a teenager (Abbey Stirling). Struggles ensue, and Broken evolves into a grim, grueling, unforgettable excursion into humanity's darkest recesses.
