Review

Here’s something that proves the British network types can be as dumb as any American - The Brighton Belles was a TV show created as a UK adaptation of a hugely successful US show, The Golden Girls. Because, you know, it’s hard for Brits to understand American accents. Or something. But to really appreciate how bad a rip-off this show was, you need to explore the premise. Beautiful Bridget (Sheila Gish) has just buried her husband, and she suddenly finds she can't make ends meet in her big manor home. So she opts to take in lodgers, namely Annie, a moronic but harmless wench, and Frances, a sarcastic ex-teacher who has freshly divorced. Of course, Bridget screws anything that moves as she tries to find a replacement husband (how original), and sarcastic Frances has her incredibly annoying mother, Josephine, move in to the house where we’re all supposed to chortle at her silly habits. Pass the euthanasia handbook, please.
