Review

Directed by legendary Polish auteur Krzysztof Kieslowski, the creator of The Decalogue (1988), Blind Chance (1982) is another of the director’s inquiries into chance and destiny. Boguslaw Linda stars as Witek, an everyday commuter who darts to catch a train. Kieslowski’s film imagines three scenarios in which the protagonist catches the train, misses the train, and accidentally bumps a railway employee while attempting to board. Depending on the outcome, helpless Witek either lives happily ever after, becomes a political revolutionary, or a Communist Party activist. Witek’s destines vary wildly, but there’s no question that the most appealing of them involve the presence of Polish beauties Monika Gozdzik and Boguslawa Pawelec. Both women become Witek’s passionate lovers in sexy scenarios conceived by Kieslowski.
