Mumblecore meets softcore in the erotic drama Art History (2011). Maybe it’s a case of art imitating life or vice versa, but the boundaries between fact and fiction get blurred when the film’s director Joe Swanberg plays a film director named Sam shooting a sex-filled indie flick. And then there are the faux film’s lead actors, Kent and Juliette (who are asked to improvise lines during their sex scenes) being portrayed by Kent Osborne and Josephine Decker (who are also asked to improvise lines during their sex scenes). Suffice it to say, the two take method acting to a whole new place when they have un-simulated sex on screen! The skintastic act means we are shown every inch of their naked bodies. Though we really didn’t need to get a close-up of Mr. Osborne’s cock and balls, it’s a bit of treat to see Ms. Decker touch his pecker. If that’s not hot enough, hot Josephine bares her breasticles in the scene. The naked babe also reveals her bush, back and crack as she really rides her leading man in the sack. Within the course of the movie, Sam begins to get jealous of the co-stars’ chemistry which leads to some inner struggles that ultimately threaten the completion of the film within the film. Despite its psychological premise, Art History doesn’t have much follow-through regarding a plot. As a result, it received mixed reviews from the critics as well as pans from fans. Yet when it comes to skin, we’re all in!
