Island eyeful Ariirau Tekurarere has only one acting credit to her name, that of Moana in Swedish director Jan Troell’s lost-at-sea drama Hurricane (1979). Before shooting started, the film’s original director, Roman Polanski, fled the U.S. to avoid prosecution for bedding a 13-year old girl. The entire production was plagued with problems and the movie eventually flopped at the box office. Maybe all these difficulties in her cinematic debut convinced Ariirau to give up acting. Whatever caused Hurricane to be her first and last movie role, it’s the world’s loss. The one look we do get at her tit-urareres as she walks around topless in a flower lei suggests that Ariirau would have made a great actress. We’ll always have Samoa.
