Biography

Not only does Quebec native Anne Dorval look like a sophisticated queen with her dark hair, defined bone structure, and regal countenance, but she’s basically royalty when it comes to French-Canadian entertainment. After appearing in her first official acting role in the theatre in 1985, and basically being fabulous on stage, Anne was cast in the long-running role of Lola Corbell in the TV series Chambres en ville, a role she owned from 1989-1996, and which earned her several nominations for Best Actress at the prestigious Gémeaux Awards. The star won two of them later, for her part as Criquette and Ashley Rockwell in Le Coeur a ses raisons from 2005-2007, had another nomination for Natalie Rivard in The Parent Family from 2008-2014, and won another Gémeaux as Jessica in Léo in 2018. In between all of her highly successful TV adventures, Anne was also making herself known as a big-screen star. She was Chantale Lemming in the film I Killed My Mother (2009), written by, directed by, and co-starring Xavier Dolan—the beginning of a beautiful relationship. Dolan and Anne would go on to do five more films together, including Heartbeats (2010), Laurence Anyways(2012), Mommy (2014), It’s Only the End of the World (2016), and Matthias & Maxime (2019). It was her role as Diane “Die” Després in Mommy that really cemented Anne as an acting force to be reckoned with, earning her nine awards nominations from various festivals and six wins, including a Canadian Screen Award for Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role (like an Oscar). As for nudity, you will see bare breasts and a furry kitty in Heal the Living (2016), and it’s all very nice, indeed—even if it belongs to a body double and not Anne herself.
