Anna and the King

Review

Back before it was a movie that nobody saw, Anna and The King was a TV series nobody remembers. The year is 1862 and a strong-willed American schoolteacher (Samantha Eggar) has traveled to Siam with her young son (Eric Shea) to take a job offered by King Mongkut (Yul Brynner) as the personal teacher of his kidlets. Of course, he’s a brash bastard most of the time, and she’s a tough broad who won’t back down, so naturally they hump. Only you don’t see the humping here, because it was 1972, yo. An adaptation of the feature film classic The King and I, this is essentially more of the same, only cut down to a TV friendly timeframe. Huzzah for crass capitalization!
