A British sitcom that only lasted six episodes (which is classed as a full season in the UK), An Actor’s Life For Me (which translates to Luvvies and Mental Cases in English) featured John Gordon Sinclair as struggling actor Robert Neilson, who is determined to make the big time. Even if it kills him and everyone around him. Of course, his incompetent agent, Desmond (Victor Spinetti) doesn’t help things and nor does his teacher girlfriend Sue (Gina McKee).  An adaptation of a Radio 4 comedy series, critical acclaim didn’t help it enjoy a long life, even though it was roundly figured to be very well written and extremely funny. The series was duly replaced with another series, Nelson’s Column, which was basically the same main character only this time as a journalist. Gina McKee would go on to bigger and better things, most notably as Hugh Grant’s wheelchair bound buddy in Notting Hill and, in a rare skin role, in 1996’s Our Friends in the North.
