Alpha City (1985)

Like ’80s classics To Live and Die in L.A. (1985) and Escape from New York (1981), the German thriller Alpha City (1985) is a macho action flick bathed in neon and riddled with bullets. Claude-Oliver Rudolph stars as a gun-toting crook trying to dodge gunfire in a glitzy urban jungle, even as he woos the comely Isabelle Willer. Facing stiff competition from a dangerous American (Al Corley), Frank (Rudolph) has to eliminate the competition if he wants to get the girl. Between the moody synth soundtrack and the polished chrome set pieces, there’s little doubt that this is an ’80s action vehicle. Nevertheless, Willer’s fetching, naked curves have a timeless appeal.
