Alicia en la España de las maravillas (1979)

Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland story may be colorfully psychedelic and bizarrely imaginative, but it’s not particularly sexy. Director Jordi Feliú sets out to change that in Alicia en la España de las maravillas (1979), a politically conscious, erotically charged adaptation of the famed fairy tale. Feliú guides his heroine through four decades of contemporary Spanish history in a provocative, boldly experimental allegory for Spain’s tumultuous twentieth-century experience. The sex in Feliú’s film often tends toward the disturbing, but flesh flashes from Silvia Aguilar are appealing in any context.
