Scrublands (2023)

In a small town in Australia, a pastor named Byron Swift (Jay Ryan) concluded his Sunday morning service by pulling out a rifle and killing five people. One year later, a Syndey reporter named Martin Scarsden (Luke Arnold) shows up to thoroughly investigate what turned the father into a murderer. The town is still traumatized, but coincidentally so is Martin, because of a tragedy a few months earlier involving another story he was working on. Despite the townspeople’s hostility, he starts to piece together what happened with a little help from a single mom and local bookstore owner (Bella Heathcote), and maybe uncover a lot more than he anticipated. And speaking of uncovered, Bella has a couple of steamy moments canoodling by a creek in flashback. It could definitely do with more skin, but you’ll still find yourself in Rubland!
