Though she has long been a resident of England, we Americans can claim Zoe Wanamaker as one of our own. She was born on May 13, 1949, in New York City. The daughter of an actress/ radio performer and an actor/ director/ radio producer, Zoe was primed for fame from an early age (and, yes, she’s related to the famous department store Wanamakers). She attended Hornsey College of Art and later studied acting at the Central School of Speech and Drama. Zoe's career in the entertainment biz started on the stage. She was a member of the famed Royal Shakespeare Company and won an Olivier Award for her performance in Once in a Lifetime and another for her work in Sophocles' Electra. Eventually, Zoe made her way to the big screen, initially appearing in works such as Take Three Girls (1971), Hitler: The Last Ten Days (1973), Between the Wars (1973), Spy Trap (1973), Jennie: Lady Randolph Churchill (1974), The Confederacy of Wives (1975), Village Hall (1975), Crown Court (1975), and A Christmas Carol (1977). “I don't have any regrets about not having had children,” she says. “What's the point? It's just something else to beat yourself up over.” It also kept her body in shape for her nude debut in her forties for Prime Suspect 1 (1991).
