Xiu Xiu: The Sent-Down Girl (1998)

There wasn’t really a lot of culture going on during the Cultural Revolution in China. Instead, a lot of innocent people were sent off to perform manual labor for their evil rulers. Lu Lu stars as the titular character in Xiu Xiu: The Sent-Down Girl (1998). As the innocent gal tries to survive her new role as slave to the government, some pretty complicated feelings develop between Lu Lu and her new masters, and this daring and acclaimed film takes some real risks in its leisurely storytelling. Lu Lu is also a real find, managing to be both sexy and innocent throughout her constant disrobings.
