Watchers II (1990)

Sometimes cinematic sequels are better than the original. All one has to do is look to the following flicks to know what we mean. Indeed, The Empire Strikes Back (1980) improved upon the characters in Star Wars (1977) as did Paddington 2 (2018) to Paddington (2014). Without the set up of The Three Musketeers (1973) and Before Sunrise (1995), you couldn’t have the complications seen in The Four Musketeers (1974) and Before Sunset (2004), respectively. Other second installments that improve on the first in the franchise include Superman II (1989), Spider-Man 2 (2004), and Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008). When it comes to Watchers II (1990), you don’t even have to watch Watchers (1988). Loosely based on Dean Koontz’s novel “Watchers” (1987), the sci-fi sequel centers around a genetically re-engineered golden retriever who runs away from testing at a research facility. When the ultra-intelligent canine develops a psychic connection with a creature created in a lab experiment, all of the animals in the world around him go bananas, including the humans!
