Venus (2006)

Great Nudity!

Review

Peter O'Toole plays a second-tier actor with one foot in the grave and both eyes on nineteen-year-old Jodie Whittaker in Venus (2006), a May-December romance to remember written by acclaimed playwright, screenwriter, and novelist Hanif Kureishi. Jodie's come to live with Pete's crabby thespian pal Leslie Phillips, her great-uncle, who expects her to whip him up fish suppers and fuss over him as he sees fit. Unfortunately for Uncle Leslie, surly Jodie's as big a good-for-nothing as he is, and his plan for late-life luxury falls all to hell. Then Pete, who comes by nearly every day to have a drink and shoot the theater-scene bull, takes an interest in Jodie—and Leslie hands her over into his chum's keeping. More arthouse than stroke cinema, Venus is no Lolita, but Peter does get Jodie to pose naked (for a room full of artists, of course). It's an award-winning character study of a dirty old man with a nice side helping of flirty young mams.
