Hollywood royalty came into this world in 1956 when Carrie Fisher was born, the daughter of the short-lived marriage of once-renowned crooner/matinee idol Eddie Fisher and beloved actress Debbie Reynolds. And as so many show-biz kids before and after her, Carrie received a jump start in the business of show, but not without its price. Following her sexy start onscreen as one of Warren Beatty's babes in Shampoo (1975) and her legendary leading role as Princess Leia Organa in Star Wars (1977) and its two sequels, Carrie fell into that Tinseltown trap of drug and alcohol abuse--not to mention a quickie marriage to singer/songwriter Paul Simon. Nonetheless, she kept active as an actress in a number of popular but relatively sex-and-skin-free projects such as Hannah and Her Sisters (1986) and When Harry Met Sally (1989). The final decade of the millennium found Carrie adding novelist and screenwriter to her resumé, with the book and script of Postcards from the Edge (1990) and its immediate follow-up novel Surrender the Pink. "Pink" and other assorted varieties of nudity have never really interested Carrie, though her appearance in an S&M-inspired bikini in the third installment of the original Star Wars trilogy, Return of the Jedi (1983), became the fodder for many an adolescent fantasy--not to mention the impetus for an intergalactic erection by the film's beloved baddie Jabba the Hut. Sadly in 2016, Carrie suffered a heart attack on a transatlantic flight and departed for that big curtain call in the sky. Rest in peace, Carrie, and thanks for all the joy you brought us in your tragically short sixty years on this planet.
