1974 may have been the year Caged Heat hit the silver screen, but it was also a great year for uncaged bush, perv-ticularly skinternational snatch! In 1974, viewers got big-screen box from France (Emmanuelle), Sweden (Thriller: A Cruel Picture), Poland (Immoral Tales), Italy (The Night Porter) Britain (Games Girls Play), and of course some good old American apple pie (Big Bad Mama, Flesh Gordon). And this is only the beginning of the nude delights of this fanny-tastic year!

And on this date in 2002, the remarkable beauty who loomed so ethereal that the world naturally called her “Rainbeaux” departed this mortal coil.

Mr. Skin Bids Farewell to Roberta Collins

Claudia Jennings. Cheryl “Rainbeaux” Smith. Candice Rialson. And, now, Roberta Collins.

Those four ferocious-yet-vulnerable blonde beauties burned incandescently and indelibly in the most inventive, innovative, and oftentimes most absolutely insane low-budget cult sensations of the 1970s.

And, alas, now they have all departed this mortal coil. Roberta’s leaving was reported by legendary filmmaker Jack Hill and he is a more-than-fitting messenger. Hill directed the flaxen powder-keg in The Big Doll House -- just one in a series of Roberta’s screen-scorchers.

Susan Atkins, Woman in Prison

The California board of parole hearings unanimously denied Charles Manson follower and convicted murderer Susan Atkins, who is terminally ill with weeks to live, a compassionate release from prison, where she has been for 37 years. And it’s unlikely she spent that whole time having lesbian sex in the shower, since she became a born-again Christian in 1974.

In Arapaho, Oklahoma this week, authorities arrested Custer County Sheriff Mike Burgess for a long list of crimes including forcing 12 female inmates at the county jail to compete in a wet t-shirt contest with cigarettes as the prize, having sex with a woman in his custody, making another inmate a trustee after she gave him a blowjob, 14 counts of second-degree rape, and seven counts of forcible oral sodomy. From the looks of things, first-class sleazebag Burgess was running a hellhole not unlike the grimy pits of skin and sex that are featured in some of the classic Women in Prison films we love so much. In Bad Girls Dormitory (1984), the inmates also have to deal with a sadistic and corrupt warden who forces them to wear white t-shirts that reveal the outlines of their hard-nippled knockers. Eerily similar. Likewise, Chained Heat (1983), a movie that features the formidable funbags of femmes fatale Linda Blair and Sybil Danning, features John Vernon as Warden Bacman, a dirty old man who makes a practice of sticking it to his inmates in his private hot tub. One of my all-time favorite rack-tresses, Rainbeaux Smith, appears in another great WIP flick, Caged Heat (1974), directed by Jonathan Demme and produced by Roger Corman. This time the inmates' persecutor is a wheelchair-bound lesbian played by Barbara Steele, but her tactics of intimidation are just as brutal as any man's. Maybe if Sheriff Burgess had watched some of these movies, he would have known that the slimeballs running the women's jails always get theirs in the end.
