The War of the Roses (1989)

A parable and a cautionary tale, The War of the Roses (1989) is perhaps the ultimate anti-date movie. The whirlwind courtship of a fabulously attractive young couple is presented primarily to serve as stark contrast to their grimly hilarious and vicious combat during the dissolution of their matrimonial bonds. It is impossible to feel sorry for either bride or groom as the warm soup of their affections turns to a cold stew of bile. However, the dogged rancor of this man and woman does eventually win a grudging respect as man and wife pursue their wedded grudge unto the very gates of death.
