The Shipping News (2001)

A man who lives in New York takes his daughter back to his family home in Newfoundland after she has a traumatizing experience with her mother in The Shipping News (2001). The main character, the father, Quoyle, is a writer, and he has a column in the newspaper titled ‘The Gammy Bird,’ and it begins to get a lot of attention and an increasing regular audience around it. Eventually he meets a local widow and starts to hit it off with her. Playing the young girl’s not-so-responsible mother, Petal, is Cate Blanchett who has some of the sexiest scenes of her career in this film. Early on we see her in bed with Spacey in a pink bra, post coitus. And a little after she’s getting dressed and treats us to some thong and fishnet action as she pulls her pants back up. Seems like this material is what really belongs in the newspaper!
