The Return of Martin Guerre (1982)

A man returning from war is accused of being an imposter in the historic drama The Return of Martin Guerre (1982). Martin Guerre (Gérard Depardieu) was placed in a strategic marriage by his family at a young age and in a fit of youthful rebellion ran off with a band of mercenaries. 9 years later Martin returns a fully-grown man, changed and matured by his participation in the Hundred Years’ War, and he is accepted back into the village. After a few years have passed Martin goes to his uncle to discuss the profits his land made during his absence, and suddenly the rumors about his identity start and he must go on trial to prove he is not an imposter. Nathalie Baye plays the abandoned wifey who welcomes Gérard Depardieu back into her life with open arms (and legs) and brings out some historical hooters for this period piece.
