Seven years after the cinematic release of his award-winning youth-drama The Outsiders, director Francis Ford Coppola decided to produce a TV series based on the same material. It opens right where the movie ends by introducing the tomboy named "Scout” and continues through a year of the characters' lives as the Curtis brothers struggle to stay together.
