The Outlaw (1943) is famous for two reasons and they’re both Jane Russell. It was her her film debut, a Western by Howard Hughes. Yes, that Howard Hughes of the Spruce Goose, millionaire and mysophobic nutcase. He was also a bra designer, inspired by Jane’s massive bust, and with the stills of an architect was able to not only let them stand in regal fashion but offered enough cleavage to feed even the hungriest tit man. There’s a plot, of course, and it involves such mythic characters from the Wild West past, such as Doc Holiday, Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid, but really all that is mere window dressing for the product on display, which are Jane’s jugs. They’re undercover, but so sexy for their time that the movie was banned in Sweden of all places.
