Adapted from the bestselling novel by Jhumpa Lahiri, Mira Nair's The Namesake (2006) tells the story of Irfan Khan and Tabu, a Calcutta couple cobbled together by their families. When the two leave India to start a new life in New York, they have to learn to deal with the sleek shallowness of life in grubby Gotham. Culture shock doesn't stand in the way of their doing the Bollywood bed boogie, though, and soon they have a bouncing baby boy who grows up to look just like Kumar from Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle (2004). In fact, it is Kumar, also known as Kal Penn! Kal has no interest whatsoever in his Indian heritage—though his real name is Nikhil, he goes by the nickname Gogol, after his daddum’s favorite writer—and is American through and through, from his attitude to his pottitude. Plus he dates possibly the hottest hottie ever to appear on The Real World, Jacinda Barrett. She's as white as white can be, but is it meant to be? Kal begins to question his choices when me meets fine fellow Indian Zuleikha Robinson.
