The Lenny Henry Show

This BBC sitcom centered on the fictional pirate television network Brixton Broadcasting Company and the attempts of an obsessed police sergeant to shut them down. Since pirating broadcast television is a major problem in the UK, where television is doled out commercial free based on the concept of member subscription, it seemed like a natural premise to create a comedy show around. Stealing TV over there is kind of like stealing cable in the States--only they can lock you up for it. Can you imagine how uncomfortable that first conversation with your cell mate and future lover would be? “I killed my whole family. Wanna make out?” The show first aired in 1984 but came back in 1987 for an encore, followed by US distribution in 1994. Besides being considered by some as one of the funniest shows in the UK, it featured Gina Mckee as Julie. This lovely brunette has also appeared in Our Friends in the North and the miniseries The Forsyte Saga.
