The Lair of the White Worm (1988)

Flesh fiends and horror fans owe outlandish auteur Ken Russell a standing ovation for his cinematic treatment of The Lair of the White Worm (1988). Based on Bram Stoker ’s 1911 novel of the same name, the R rated film blends supernatural imagery with black comedy and BDSM kinkiness. Updated to the 20th century, the story gets underway when an archaeology student (Peter Capaldi) unearths the skull of a large snake. Meanwhile, sweet Eve Trent is being courted by handsome Lord James D’Ampton (Hugh Grant). That is, until the mysterious Lady Sylvia Marsh (Amanda Donohoe) drives into town. Lord knows the lord is torn between these two as seen in a sexy dream he has that features the women wrestling with one another in stewardess uniforms. Prepare for take off! Later, Lady Marsh kidnaps Eve in an attempt to sacrifice her to a giant worm. And how can the tied-up damsel in distress (and out of dress) protect herself when she’s wearing nothing but her bra and panties?! If you haven’t already figured it out, Ms. Donohoe portrays one fierce femme fatale. After playing Snakes and Ladders with D’Ampton, she D’robes to our D’lite. Throughout much of the movie, Amanda hypnotically undulates in the buff. When she’s not touting her bare breasts, bush and butt, the be-thonged brunette is donning thigh-high black patent leather boots and a lace getup designed to get audiences off. In other words, Sylvia is the Priestess of the Worm — and the Goddess of your Trouser Snake!
