Panned by critics but redeemed at the box office, Tom Brady’s decidedly lowbrow hit The Hot Chick (2002) is one of a string of adolescent comedies from SNL alum Rob Schneider. This time out, Schneider stars as a bumbling thief who runs afoul of an ancient Abyssinian curse. The first-century hex causes twenty-first-century Clive (Schneider) to pull a Freaky Friday with hot chick Jessica Spencer (Rachel McAdams), a perky cheerleader who spews venom at geeks and dweebs. If you can forget that it’s supposed to be Schneider in there, it’s easy to enjoy McAdams’s sensuous strutting, while co-stars Anna Faris and Katie Lohmann make a strong case that the title of Brady’s film ought to have been pluralized.
