The Gods Must Be Crazy II (1989)

Nine years after the original The Gods Must Be Crazy (1981) became an international hit, director James Uys revisits his Kalahari Bushmen characters for a brand new, and oft-superior, farce. Tongue-clicking Bushman hero N!xau is once again drawn into the beguiling world of modern civilization when his two young children are taken away by a band of ivory poachers. Setting off in search of his progeny, N!xau soon meets a headstrong Manhattan lawyer (Lena Farugia) and a macho game warden (Hans Strydom), with whom he has trouble communicating. Once again, director Uys is interested in the gulfs dividing cultures, although he also takes pains to show commonalities. Farugia sans clothing, for instance, is something that men from all corners of the world can immediately appreciate.
