The Girl from Monday (2005)

The near future is presented in The Girl from Monday (2005) as a stifling, corporate-choked, government-controlled dystopia that is not entirely dissimilar from the downtown Manhattan of today. Public schools have deteriorated to holding institutions where young scholars are required to check their guns at the gate and swallow daily pills that ensure attention deficit disorder. Sex, like so much of what’s good in life, has become a commodity traded on the stock exchange and can only be lawfully enacted in pursuit of purchase credits. To make love purely as an expression of affection or for pleasure is punishable by two years teaching high school. Clearly this cowardly new world is in need of a savior. The fun and salvation begin when the messiah arrives from a planet called Monday.
