The Garden of the Finzi-Continis (1970) is a fascinating character study that examines the lives of the wealthy Finzi-Continis, a Jewish family enjoying an aristocratic life in 1930s Italy. The wealthy family enjoys an insulated existence behind the walls of their princely estate--and eventually get a rude awakening as to the world’s politics. Fortunately, this serious film includes the serious beauty of Dominique Sanda, who helps makes this probably the classiest production to ever feature a wet T-shirt scene.
