The Face of Another (1966) stars Tatsuya Nakadai as a crispy critter who used to be A-OK until he went and got his face flambéed. Withdrawn from society after an industrial accident, Tat hides away in a mask of bandages. He's growing distant from the missus, Machiko Kyô, and is alienated from his friends and even from himself. Miserable, he finally turns to the mysterious Dr. Hori (Mikijira Hiro) to help him shuffle off this deep-fried mortal coil. But the doc has a different idea: Why doesn't Tat try an experimental new surgery that will replace his mangled mug with the face of a stranger? Tat agrees, and secretly he re-enters his life pretending to be someone else. Can he get his wife to cheat on him . . . with him? Will his friends treat Tat differently? And what's behind this snatch-of-snapshots subplot about a young woman, shunned by men because of her twisted kisser, who decides to seduce her brother?
