The Drowning Pool (1975)

Paul Newman returns as debonair private dick Lew Harper in The Drowning Pool (1975), the sequel to 1966's Harper. This time, Paul's been called in by loaded looker Joanne Woodward, an oil tycoon's wife who's been known to let other men drill her. She's getting blackmailed and wants the threatening letters to stop, and though she claims her adulterous days are over, the fact that she was once Paul's lover complicates things a bit. But that's not the half of it—soon Joanne's mother-in-law, Coral Browne, is found murdered! Paul, investigating all these shenanigans, finds himself caught up in a power struggle between Joanne's clan and another oil baron . . . and he gets his eye caught by a hot young Melanie Griffith to boot.
