The Casual Vacancy (2015)

Based on the novel of the same name by Ms. Harry Potter, J.K. Rowling, the 2015 British boob tube mini-series The Casual Vacancy is set in the fictitious British town of Pagford, an idyllic-looking village of beautiful houses and cobblestone streets, and it follows parish council leader Howard Mollison (Michael Gambon) and his wife, Shirley (Julia McKenzie), as they decide to sell off the local community center to hotel developers. Their capitalistic move is opposed by town council favorite Barry Fairbrother (Rory Kinnear), who soon drops dead, leaving a Casual Vacancy on the council staff. Who will fill the vacant spot and swing the vote to essentially privatize the village? Tune in to find out.
