The Benny Hill Show

No Nudity

Review

Looking back, it’s hard to explain the popularity of The Benny Hill Show. A British institution, it ran for thirty four years by doing the exact same thing every single week; Benny is a stiff upper lip English gent who secretly loves the birds and ends up chasing scantily-clad, big busted nurses in fast motion as the laugh track hoots and hollers. Add in a musical guest and a couple sketches that are slightly different each week, and you've got the formula figured out. Even if you've never seen an episode, you've seen a person running around in fast motion to "Yakety Sax", pulling off all kinds of gags in the process. That's a tribute to the man and his trademark goofy salute. To his credit, Benny Hill was a funny guy and decent impressionist, but when the time came for him to put in a dramatic turn like in The Italian Job (1969) and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968), he was up to the task. But generally what he’s remembered for is the stuff that became his core fallback – innuendo, filled bras, garter belts, and the pinky to the bottom lip that Dr. Evil has since made his own. On the upside, the show was nominated for two Emmys and gave teenage boys around the world ample stroke material. Benny sure liked the hills, which explains why his show was a launchpad for Hill’s Angels Jane Leeves, Pamela Cundell, Anna Dawson, Anne Easton, Susan Daly, Sue Bond, Diana Darvey, Louise English, Cheryl Gilham, Suzy Mandell… Leeves is our fav, since we couldn't leave the TV when the gorgeous brunette was on screen. Unfortunately, all these women can only be seen in their bras since the show never had any real nudity. For three decades, Benny Hill brought us the best of the British bombshells bouncing all over the small screen. For that, we take off our shorts and salute you, Benny Hill!
