The Barbara McNair Show

In 1969, singer/actor/dancer Barbara McNair broke the same sort of ground that Sammy Davis Jr. had been breaking for a few years before – she made it as a headline entertainer, even though she was black. These days such a thing is no biggie, but back then it was a major deal and Barbara McNair broke several barriers on her way to getting her own television show. Though it didn’t hang around long, it gave McNair a springboard to national recognition which she benefited from for years afterwards and perhaps helped her forget her skinful turn in 1967’s If He Hollers, Let Him Go! Guests included the likes of composer John Barry, Bob Hope, Bob Crane and Rich Little. McNair still performs all over the world to this day. And she’s not bad looking for an old boiler…
