Marilyn Chambers, one of the legends of swelluloid, would have been 62 today! Unfortunately she was taken too soon, just days before her 57th birthday in 2009. While she never rose to real super stardom, she also never lost her mind and renounced her filmography the way another of her contemporaries did. Going from hardcore sensation in Behind the Green Door to scream queen in Rabid, Marilyn transitioned well into softcore, and left behind a legacy that's worth celebrating again and again!
Take a look back at some of her sexiest and most hardcore moments after the jump!
Jill C. Nelson made her auspicious debut in the literary world with a penetrating look at an infamous porn star in John Holmes: A Life in Inches. The interviews and research for that biography had her crossing paths with such legendary ladies as Seka, Serena, and Rhonda Jo Petty, who inspired her to embark on her latest offering, Golden Goddesses: 25 Legendary Women of Erotic Films, 1968-1985. This in-depth exposition delves into the classic era of pornography, from the onset of hardcore in 1968, to the video boom of 1985.
Jill has chronicled tales of showing tail from superstars of the skin screen like Marilyn Chambers, Seka, Veronica Hart, Georgina Spelvin, and plenty more. Women who have moved millions of sex tapes and achieved long-term staying power. Legendary screen sirens from arguably the sexiest time in hardcore history, who risked arrest and reputation to bring us some of the finest onscreen escapades ever filmed. We could wax poetic on these pioneers of porn all day!
Better yet, if it has always been your dream to meet and party with these Golden Goddesses, Jill is having two release parties this week in West Hollywood (details here), and will be joined by a lineup of legendary guests that will blow your mind and your pants: Kay Parker, Veronica Hart, Serena, Rhonda Jo Petty, Georgina Spelvin, Annie Sprinkle, Kitten Natividad, Kelly Nichols, Sharon Mitchell, Ginger Lynn, Christy Canyon, Nina Hartley, Laurie Holmes, Julia St. Vincent, Raven Touchstone, and Carly Mills (daughter of the late softcore film actress, Barbara Mills).
Now she’s giving us the inside scoop on the best actresses ever to appear in hardcore movies, and the ins and outs of the bumping business.

Jill C. Nelson knows her smut. As the co-author of John Holmes: A Life in Inches, (now in its 2nd Edition and available on Amazon.com) she's rubbed down every aspect of legendary porn star John Holmes' life and career- and trust us, that's a lot of rubbing.
Now Jill's working on a new XXX opus, Golden Goddesses: 25 Legendary Women of Erotic Films, 1968-1985, for which she's (sk)interviewed the likes of Marilyn Chambers, Veronica Hart, Juliet Anderson, Georgina Spelvin, and many more.
So we've decided to turn the tables on Jill and find out what makes a historian of hardcore tick- and where she scored those obscure 8mm porn loops.

Ever since Jenna Jameson became a household name in the mid- 2000's, porn stars have been scrambling to supplement their porn suck-cess with mainstream success. Fright flicks are a fun and easy way for a porn star to get her name out into the wider world, and recently we've seen a deluge of porn professionals like Tori Black, Alexis Texas and Sasha Grey trying their hands at horror.
But porn and horror have been kissing cousins since before Jenna hit puberty, back when "Ivory Soap Girl" turned notorious porno star Marilyn Chambers starred as a diseased dame with a vagina in her armpit (no, really, that's what it's about) in Rabid (1977).
Join us after the jump for some of our favorite stars past and present who have gone from porn queens to scream queens!... read more
Hey San Franciscans! Do you like smut? Of course you do, you're reading the Mr. Skin blog. Well, you're in luck, because the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts is giving the art of skinema some artsy-fartsy "credibility" with its new nude series, Smut Capital of America: San Francisco's Sex Cinema Revolution. The series celebrates San Francisco's role as the first city in the United States to effectively legalize pornography in the late 60's, as documented in filmmaker Michael Stabile's as-yet unfinished documentary Smut Capital of America.
San Francisco being San Francisco, there are some sausage-on-sausage skinema screenings that most Mr. Skin fans will probably want to skip, but for the connoisseur of cooch there's still a variety of vaginal delights to be had:
On July 21 at 7:30, Yerba Buena will be screening Pornography in Denmark, a 1969 film that sexplores the then-taboo topic of pornography by showing dozens of Danish girls (Denmark was the first country to decriminalize pornography) doinking dudes and snacking on each others' Scandinavian snatches.
Then on August 25 at 7:30, Yerba Buena will be screening Resurrection of Eve (1973), a classic sexample of '70s smut starring Behind the Green Door's Marilyn Chambers as a woman who discovers the joy of orgies after a serious car accident. Marilyn is xxx-plosive in this film, considered one of the best by legendary porn purveyors The Mitchell Brothers.
So if you find yourself in the City by the Bay this summer, stroll on down to the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and slap your sausage in style with these all-time classics of the skinema. Just wait until after the screening, wouldja?... read more
Ah my friends, welcome back to Castle Rackula. I wasn’t expecting you this early!
When I was a young boy in pre-Christian Mamsylvania, my friends and I used to steal the erotic etchings of Messalina getting gang-banged by the senate that the Roman soldiers carried and hide them under our straw mattresses to look at by candlelight when everyone else was asleep.
Incidentally, the real Messalina was never as hot as Anneka Di Lorenzo (AKA Marjorie Lee Thoreson) was in Caligula. But then, the real Messalina would never have sued Bob Guccione for sexual harassment.
Pornography has come a long way since the days of the Roman Empire. And today’s porn stars, while they may not have the political pull that Messalina did, do have more star power.
And sometimes they use that star power to make the jump from creamed teens to scream queens. Here are few of my favorites.

Penthouse Pet of the Month for December 1982, Monique Gabrielle mam-orably debuted in the movies topless as a partying prostitute Tessie in the Henry Winkler-Michael Keaton comedy Night Shift.
From there, Monique became one of the most in-demand and most gloriously often displayed naked babes in the movies. She disrobed in hits ranging from the Hollywood blockbuster Flashdance and the all-time great Women in Prison triumph Chained Heat to the Marilyn Chambers hardcore porn c(o)untry-wester musical Up n Coming and the Tom Hanks laff-riot Bachelor Party.
Although the hyper-violent fantasy Deathstalker II is as close as Monique came to horror on the way up, Monique happily made the leap once she’d made it big (in fans’ pants), co-starring with happy handfuls of other nude firght-flick starlets in Scream Queen Hot Tub Party and Evil Toons.
Few figures from the Golden Age of Porn are more central and more controversial than Chuck Traynor. The cousin of the original Jay from the group Jay and the Americans, Traynor began acted in sexploitation movies like Joe Sarno’s Odd Triangle and Karla in the late 1960s.
From 1971 to 1974, Traynor was married to the original porn star and epitome of porn chic Linda Lovelace, whom he allegedly talked into entering the world of porn, first doing loops like the infamous Dog-Fucker and ultimately starring in the hardcore classic Deep Throat in 1972.

Aside from being Earth Day, today also happens to be the birthday of some of the Earth's most notable skin-habitants. Some of them, like V.I. Lenin (father of the Soviet Union), J. Robert Oppenheimer (father of the atomic bomb) and Flora Disney (mother of Walt Disney) are important because of the newsworthy place they occupy in history. Other are significant for reasons that are far more nudes-worthy. Here are my six skinstant celebrity birthdays for today.
Marilyn Chambers went from being the smiling woman on the cover of the Ivory Soap box to getting a face full of soapy scum in the seminal seventies porno flick Behind the Green Door (1972). Five years later, Chambers appeared in Canadian sci-fi auteur David Cronenberg's vampire flick Rabid (1977), where she sucks down a different type of body fluid.
Baltimore's favorite son John Waters' early work, especially his undisputed masterpiece Pink Flamingos (1972), was enormously influential in the development of underground cinema, midnight movie culture, and generally bad taste in entertainment. Waters shocked the world in the 90s when he came out as a gay man and today he continues to make twisted movies. And I love him for it.
Chicago native Jack Nitzsche died in 2000, but not before filling out an incredibly impressive resume. He famously worked and had subsequent falling-outs with Phil Spector and Neil Young in the 60s and 70s, but I especially appreciate the soundtracks he produced for skinematic classics like Performance (1970), Hardcore (1979), Cruising (1980) Personal Best (1982), 9 ½ Weeks (1986) and The Hot Spot (1990). Jack, we need you back!
One of Hollywood's most enduring talents, Jack Nicholson's career is the stuff of legend. But if anyone needs a reminder why we all a debt of gratitude to the 71-year old Lakers fanatic who famously banged Lara Flynn Boyle from 1999 to 2001, here are a few: He made out with a naked Lia Beldam before she turned into a naked Billie Gibson in The Shining (1980); he plowed his face into Jessica Lange's muff in The Postman Always Rings Twice (1981); and he got into a hot tub with a bare Kathy Bates in About Schmidt (2002).
Recording and TV star Glen Campbell produced a string of hits, including "Gentle On My Mind," "Wichita Lineman," "By the Time I Get to Phoenix." But it was "Rhinestone Cowboy" that inspired Porky's director Bob Clark's 1984 flop Rhinestone starring Sylvester Stallone and country star/act-chest Dolly Parton.
50s fetish and pin-up model Bettie Page's recent resurgence in popularity has made her rack, rump and distinctive haircut nearly ubiquitous. She has even inspired a film about her life called The Notorious Bettie Page (2005). Still, despite all the imitators, there's only one fetish model that really makes the pages stick together.
Aaron Spelling is a man who built a TV production dynasty like no other. He is also the man, perhaps not coincidentally, who produced Dynasty. Spelling's many series credits include Beverly Hills, 90210, Models Inc., Melrose Place, and that "Jiggle TV" classic Charlie's Angels. We lost Spelling in 2006, but he will always have a place of honor in the hallowed halls of skinstory.
