Straw Dogs (2011)

Sam Peckinpah's 1971 British home-invasion shocker gets a Southern-fried update in Rod Lurie's Straw Dogs (2011). Screenwriter David Sumner (James Marsden) and his wife Amy (Kate Bosworth) recently relocated from LA to her family farm somewhere in the middle of nowhere, Mississippi. David’s looking for some peace and quiet to work on his new screenplay, but when a group of rednecks led by creepy good ol’ boy and ex boyfriend of Amy, Charlie (Alexander Skarsgard) start harassing Amy, it creates conflict both inside and outside the house. Amy's convinced her writer hubby is a bit of a soft city boy, and Charlie and the gang sense the same thing. From slacking when hired to fix the home's roof, to playing loud music to keep him from writing, they refuse to stop toying with him and being crude to Amy. After their remarks turn to something way more sinister, things get real, real fast. But when Charlie & Co. break down their front door to attack Amy again, David goes over the edge. Ends up, this city dog can bite back! Kate is great in nipply, braless tank tops and teeny-tiny running shorts. In fact, her sexiness causes all sorts of friction (not just in our pants) when all the men leer at her, and David suggests it wouldn't happen had she dressed a bit more modestly. While Kate Bosworth is worth the price of admission alone, her body double flashes some cheek in the disturbing, violent sex scene. No, she doesn’t hold a candle to Susan George in the original but that doesn't make this one a straw dog! In fact, we'd still be happy to raw dog the star of this version of Straw Dogs!
