This ongoing, cyclical miracle is so commonplace that we take it for granted. But let a few drops of blood spout unbidden from the palms of a female’s hands, and she turns into the centerpiece for a movie called Stigmata (1999). All eyes are on curvy, breathy Patricia Arquette as she is visited by strange and troubling intimations that God and Satan are in a struggle for her soul, and they are determined to have a bloody good time while the battle rages.
