Outside of a blink and you miss it cameo, Burt Reynolds bailed on this one. So with the Bandit M.I.A. his old pal the Snowman, AKA Cletus Snow (Jerry Reed) steps out of the eighteen wheeler and into the black and gold trans am in Smokey and the Bandit III (1983). Our favorite portly lawman Buford T. Justice (Jackie Gleason) has retired, but is incredibly bored without bad guys to chase. When the Enos boys (Paul Williams and Pat McCormick) open a seafood restaurant, they need somebody to haul some fish from Florida to Texas in an absurdly short amount of time. Having been on the other side of the law for so long, Buford thinks he knows just how to get around any roadblocks the cops could put up, so he takes the gig, and bets the Enos boys 250K he'll make it happen. Looking to cash in on the bet, the Enos' hire Cletus (Jerry Reed) to act as the new Bandit, steal the fish from Buford, kill the clock and make them all the money. Role reversal! Suddenly it's Buford being chased through nudist colonies, state fairs, and cattle fields with The Bandit in hot pursuit. Speaking of hot, the Smokey and the Bandit movies always have a smokeshow or two in them, and in this case it's the busty blonde sidekick Dusty Trails (Colleen Camp) bouncing along the road with The Bandit. Mike Henry returns as Buford's blubbering moron of a son, Junior Justice, but while he might not have gotten to marry Sally Field we cant cry for Junior. See, in the film's best scene Playboy Playmate Veronica Gamba is seducing Junior in an apron, with no pants on. She turns to show her tush, before we see her tatas as she hands Junior his clothes back a bit later. Critics and fans alike loathed the attempt to turn Jerry Reed into the new Bandit. But even in some of its worst iterations, you've got to hand it to Smokey and the Bandit III for having the sense to show a great rack as a means to distract, so you'll forget all about Burt's absence.
