When the screenplay that feminist author Rita Mae Brown created as a parody of slasher flicks ended up being better than any of the actual horror movie scripts they were getting, producers cut some of the meta stuff to create the cult classic that became known as The Slumber Party Massacre (1982). Keeping some of the humor and lots of the girl power themes, Amy Holden Jones directed this tale of a sleepover gone awry. Trish Deveraux (Michelle Michaels) decides to have some friends over while her parents are gone, only for the freshly escaped from a mental institution, mass murderer Russ Thorn (Michael Villella) to show up and use his power drill to spoil the fun. But while he thinks the drilling and killing is going to be simple, Russ ends up having his hands full. These girls aren't the busty and brainless bimbos we're used to seeing trip over themselves trying to get away from masked psychos. Trish's friends are smart, brave, and more than capable of taking Russ down without any man's help. Despite its inversion of classic slasher tropes, the flick knew it had to play some of them straight, to keep the straight dudes happy. Producer Roger Corman made it very clear he wanted ample showing of tits and ass to be occurring before the Massacring, and Amy Holden Jones was quite willing to oblige. Gina Smika used a body double for the scene where she gets felt up in the backseat of a car, but plenty of other ladies flashed for real. There's a pretty legendary shower scene featuring Debra Delios, Brinke Stevens and Michelle Michaels, as well as a shot of Michelle and Debra's double delights while they change in front of a window two peeping Toms are peering in at. Have a look at the sequels and the reboot if you want, but nothing beats the original. There's a lumber party in our pants thanks to The Slumber Party Massacre!
