Amber Smith: The Mr. Skin Interview

You're on the best and most popular A-caliber talents in modern B-movies. Do you have anything coming up that we should be on the lookout for?
Oh yes! Next up for me is the film Dead End. I made it last year. They're talking about a theatrical release, but I'd be just as happy if it came out straight to DVD. Going theatrical gets more people to see it, but I just want it to come out. It's my first horror movie!

Is it a sexy horror flick?
No, not at all. It's the first time I've ever read a script and thought Wow, I really want to do this film. Let's just say I play a major part in it. It's written and directed so well by Jean-Baptiste Andrea and Fabrice Canepa, two French brothers. They had such heavy accents and I'm so used to being over there, that I was the only one who could clearly tell what they were saying. It hit all these film festivals and won them all and the reviews are all kick-ass! It's not a gory film. It's more psychological.

We sure do like seeing you in erotic thriller mode, like you were in Crime Scene (Picture: 1 - 2 - 3), Tell Me No Lies and Starstruck (Picture: 1 - 2 - 3 - 4- 5).
Thank you! You know, a lot of people think I'm not interested in acting when they see those movies. Well, I want them to know that I'm not embarrassed by these kinds of films. Hell, I love shooting people when I'm wearing a gold lam?athing suit. It's fun! I like doing something that's violent and sexy and still a little smart!

Amber Smith R.A.W. (Picture: 1 - 2 - 3 - 4) has been in the works for a long time and much of it is comprised of behind-the-scenes footage you've shot or overseen, correct?
We had a lot to work with--several years of material--and I like what's in there. I didn't want it to just be sexy and nude. It could have had a lot more nudity, but then we would have been going out there and competing against Playboy and Penthouse!

It's still filled with some pretty sexy stuff!
Thanks so much! There actually is some quick full-frontal material in the very last segment. But the idea was to release R.A.W. as more of a swimsuit/pin-up video, which was a good move. So, it's a little lighter than I intended, but I like the silly stuff where we're just farting around.

Are you happy with the overall production?
You know what I learned? When people have a camcorder pointing at them and they don't think the footage is going to go to press, what they do is just wave and say "Hi!" That's all people do, and that's all I did at the beginning! Something else we noticed is that people shoot you from the front. We had no shots from behind! Hello? I mean, J. Lo, she's huge! And they shoot her from behind! So we're looking for all these butt shots, but we didn't have them. In a perfect world, I would want more butt shots and I wouldn't have done the dorky "Hi!" stuff. But, hey, it's candid footage and I'm proud of it!

Well, it worked for us!
It was the first time I was behind the scenes in a big way. It's not the same as doing calendars-they take a month, you have it all planned out, but you can still audition at the same time. People shouldn't expect anything that heavy-I mean, it's not Caligula. If you're a fan of mine or a fan of swimsuit videos, well, you should expect levity. It's a light, sexy, flirty look at a goofball of a girl! It's doing pretty well so far!

It's great that you're so excited about it.
It's my first foray into the digital world-seeing the final product was like seeing my first magazine cover again. I'm a virgin to this territory.
