Legendary funnyman John Hughes' debut as a director, Sixteen Candles (1984) is the beloved coming of age story that made Molly Ringwald a star. She plays Sam Baker, whose family forgets it's her sixteenth birthday because they're too preoccupied with her big sister's wedding. At school, Sam's got it bad for the dreamy Jake Ryan (Michael Schoeffling) but is being chased by the class nerd Ted Farmer (Anthony Michael Hall). Little does she know that even though he'd like to get a little wham bam thank you Sam, when it's clear she's not into him Ted's a solid enough fella to tell her Jake talks about her all the time, that Jake is getting sick of his blonde girlfriend Caroline (Haviland Morris), and that she should definitely giver him a call. The day might start pretty terribly, but it looks like Sam's sixteenth birthday is going to turn out pretty sweet for her. Watch it for the timeless themes and the sappy sweet ending, and ignore some of the stuff that has aged like milk, including the infamous foreign exchange student Long Duk Dong (Gedde Watanabe). But while some of the jokes that worked in the 80's aren't so funny today, back in the era of big hair teen comedies weren't afraid to show some skin. Putting the Cans in Sixteen Candles, Haviland Morris will have your hand in the land below the belt when Molly and her female buddy watch her in the shower, to compare their bods to hers. We see her rack and it's clear, theirs can't compare with that pair! But don't worry about how old the actress was. This was actually a stunt double, who had a great set of double D's. It might be considered a chick flick, but thanks to those boobs these sixteen candles burn red hot!
