It sometimes seems as if every day is Gun Day in America … but there’s actually one set aside and designated as National Gun Day—and this year it’s Saturday, September 17th.

The English word derives from a “particular historical weapon: Domina Gunilda was the name given to a remarkably large ballista, a mechanical bolt throwing weapon of enormous size mounted at Windsor Castle in the 14th century.”

Guns {and gals} have been an integral part of American ‘culture’ since early last century—when they danced their way into our hearts (below left) and otherbody parts.

They’ve often been used for patriotic purposes—warning the troops that ‘Loose Women May be LOADED with Venereal Disease’ (below left) while equating scantily clad soldiers with sex appeal.

And war and weapons continue to be a draw … the poster for National Gun Day’s biggest event brings to mind these foxy females serving the U.S. in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Hollywood movies have always played a prominent part in recruiting and promoting the war effort—particularly during World War II, when rising starlets June Allyson, Marie Wilson and Corinne Calvet shot to the top (below left) … and Mara Corday fondled Dale Robertson’s well-positioned ‘weapon’ in their clearly phallic fight in ADay of Fury.

The mammary connection was not overlooked either, as Joan Crawford unleashed a double barreled assault on the audience (below left) and burlesque queen Tempest Storm let ’em have it with her twin chest cannons. Now that's a Gun Rack'!

With the focus on the front—war and woman’s—piercing pistols were a natural outgrowth.

Lest we forget the lower half, a crotch watch is also in order …

… why, close shaves with guns were even evident back in the ‘peace and love’ Sixties!

With the Cold War heating up again, Putin has the Russian army back in fighting shape

… though America’s range still appears far greater.

So let’s pay tribute to our X•ceptionalism by firing off a few rounds of our Top 10 ‘Shooting Stars’ exercising their rights—and lefts—in accordance with National Gun Day!
