Biography

You might remember Sarah Henderson for her controversial role as the innocent jail-bait who gets talked into being de-robed and de-flowered in the opening scene of the film Kids (1995)—the Generation X warning against school-age sex and salaciousness. In the scene, Sarah, simply credited as Girl #1, appears to be about 13 years old, complete with stuffed animals in her bedroom, and an innocent set of white bra and panties. It’s a total suck-face makeout fest with the sly Telly (played by Leo Fitzpatrick), followed by a pump and dump, Sarah grimacing during the whole missionary moment. One of the first questions out of just about everybody’s mouth when the movie came out was, “How old is this girl?” The answer was very distinctly called out in press kits, Sarah was almost legal at the age of 17—she just looked really, really young and innocent. While the movie was polarizing, with people either loving it or hating it, it did make movie-goers pay attention, and director Larry Clark received two Cannes Film Festival award nominations, while writer Harmony Korine got a nom for Best First Screenplay at the Film Independent Spirit Awards. It also rocketed the careers of Chloë Sevigny and Rosario Dawson, although it did little to launch Sarah’s. The little blonde starlet who caught so much attention didn’t appear anywhere again until 2000, when she took the role of Daniella or Arabella (they gave her two names) in Time Gentleman Please, and in 2001 as Chastity and a Twin in two episodes of Dr. Terrible’s House of Horrible.
